I'm 18 and buying my first car.?
I have no idea what I want. I need something cheap, fuel efficient and reliable because after the summer is over I'm heading off to college. I want a VW new beetle but I'm not sure how reliable they are or what they are like. I just want to make a sound purchase on a good car. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

New honda. They are the most reliable, fuel efficient cars you can buy for the money and they're cheap to maintain. Im 18 and also buying a car and I was looking at a VW jetta GLI but im getting an audi A4 because for a little extra money you get a lot nicer car. All depends on the money you have to spend and what you like, I dont suggest the beetle though.

first thing don't get a brand new car they always have some sort of problem
and second get a car with a 4 cylinder engine
i have an 87 Chevy s-10 and it gets about 21 mpg around town
i would personally get a Chevy or a dodge
but i here Honda's have awesome gas mileage

personally, i like vw's- they are all of the things you are looking for. also, have you been inside a bug? those are so much bigger than they look! i am 6 ft tall and can sit in the backseat without any problems at all. i really like those, but get something you feel comfortable in, and something with a GOOD WARRENTY! talk to other people who own cars like what you are looking at and see what the ups and downs are.
in which subject: never buy a mitsu gallant.

I would go with a 96 to 2000 honda civic. with up to 120k miles. it will last you alot longer and you can get one for about 4 to 5k. you will get aprox 38mpg from it and it will still fit alot of stuff in it. Beetle, youll spend all your free time working on it. I just sold my 2000 subaru imprezza and got a 98 civic 2dr ex and wow, best thing i have ever did. cheers

VW's are nice when they run I know two people that have these cars and while they are reliable they do have lots of little problems that add up over time. for example my neighbors 2001 jetta had a problem with his power windows not working the problem was that the cable that moves the windows up and down broke so that cost him 200 and he fixed it himself! then the linkage for his door handle broke that cost him another 90 for the parts! I would look into American or Japanese cars they are more reliable and much cheaper to fix. I would look into an older car with a four cylinder engine they are cheaper to fix and better on gas.

A vw bug is a good choice, There are pros and cons. I would tell you to get a 69 to 71 bug, Very comfortable suspension. Always carry a generator belt, points and a voltage regulator in your kit. Always check oil and change when needed, those are the main things you need to remember. They will take care of you if you take care of them. I use to rebuild them for along time. Always the bad cases were due to "teenage" type driving. So just keep in mind that if you want reliability try to get a bug with low miles and not preowned by some kid that beat it to death! Good luck.

A VW Beetle and Golf is good if you get the 4 cylinder versions or the turbo diesel versions. The 6 cylinder VW's are not as reliable as the 4 cylinder VW engines.
Mazda Protege/Mazda 3 is also very reliable and fuel efficient.
Honda Civic is the most reliable car in the world.
The Corolla is also pretty reliable and fuel efficient.

For you, the Honda Fit would be the right "fit". It has a high safety rating, good fuel economy, high resale value, and is fun to drive. The VW doesn't match up to any of these factors.

A new bug is a good choice. They're very reliable cars and get great gas mileage ... oh, and did I mention they have more room that you'd think? You can easily run the car over the 100,000 mileage mark.
The older model bugs are also a great choice - if you can find one. However, you would definitely need to know how to work on them. There's always something that needs to be fixed on the older models - 80s and before

I have had a Honda, Mazda, Toyota and Nissan before.
Now I have two VWs. If I were you there is a nice Rabbit 2.5 Litre 4 Cyl model and there is also a 2.0 GTI that is nice. I would not go with any american, or japanese made cars Please trust me. I would buy a VW over a Lambo If I had a choice to...that would be the VW PHAETON of course
But please just buy the VW rabbit or GTI both get great gas mileage and when you need the extra speed to get onto the highway its there for you... GOOD luck
BTW I have a 2007 Passat 2.0T 4cyl great gas Mileage

I own a 2004 VW Beetle Convertible and I adore it.
I have never had any problems at all
Alot of people have bad things to say about vws.
But it's honestly an amazing reliable car.
That will last forever.
Only take advice from people that own or have owned a vw.
The other people don't know what they are talking about.
